She is interested in understanding how natural populations evolve and has been focusing on bacteria in the human microbiome and Drosophila melanogaster.<\/p>\n<p>Nandita completed her M.S. in Statistics and Ph.D. in Genetics at Stanford University in&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/petrov.stanford.edu\/\">Dr. Dmitri Petrov\u2019s lab<\/a>&nbsp;where she developed a new statistical method to detect signatures of rapid adaptation in&nbsp;Drosophila melanogaster population genomic data. 21, 2022<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><h4>Call for Papers\u00a0<\/h4><p>The 10th RECOMB Satellite on Computational Methods in Genetics will focus on current research at the intersection of genetics, computer science, statistics, and related fields in gathering and analyzing SNP and haplotype data and applying it to problems in medicine and basic research. Population genetics allows more refined understanding of the demographic history of our species, association analysis provides insights regarding the functional and molecular underpinnings of diseases and traits, while clinical applications suggest genetics as a trailblazer into personalized medicine. The complex bioinformatic questions arising range from inferring more nuanced statistical models of genetic information to algorithms that overcome the complexity challenges of analyzing millions of SNPs across millions of individuals, to systems level challenges of handling such Big Data repositories of genotypes and phenotypes.<\/p><p>The satellite meeting will take place in San Diego on May 20-21 2022 directly preceding the main RECOMB conference.<\/p><h4>Topics of interest (including but not limited to):<\/h4><ul><li>Population genetics<\/li><li>Functional genomics<\/li><li>Germline and somatic variation<\/li><li>Clinical genomics<\/li><li>Statistical genetics<\/li><li>Machine learning application in genetics<\/li><li>Sequencing technologies<\/li><li>Single-cell sequencing<\/li><\/ul><h4>Submissions<\/h4><p>We solicit contributions in three categories (\u201ctracks\u201d):<\/p><ol><li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Proceedings track<\/span><\/strong>: Submissions should describe original work on computational methods in genetics.\u00a0 Manuscripts in this track will be considered for publication in a special issue of the journal iScience. At the time of submission, and for the entire review period, the work should not be under review by any other conference or scientific journal. Authors of manuscripts that are selected for oral presentation at RECOMB-Genetics after review but are not deemed suitable for iScience (or if the authors do not select publication in iScience) will be required to host their manuscript on a public preprint server.<\/li><li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Highlights Track<\/span><\/strong>: This track is for papers that have already been published or are in press (and linked from the journal website) within the past year. Submissions must contain a 1 page abstract submitted to EasyChair.<\/li><\/ol><h4>Partnership with iScience<\/h4><p>All submissions to the proceedings track will be simultaneously considered for publication in a special issue of the journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cell.com\/iscience\">iScience<\/a> (<span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cell.com\/iscience\">https:\/\/www.cell.com\/iscience<\/a><\/span>), if the authors agree. iScience is an open-access journal published by Cell Press for original research in the life, physical, and earth sciences.<\/p><p>In addition to the program committee of RECOMB-genetics, editors of iScience will evaluate the papers for biological impact and suitability for publication. In particular, the following criteria will be used to evaluate the biological relevance:<\/p><ul><li>Can inputs be found through experiments?<\/li><li>Can outputs be used directly in future experiments or analysis?<\/li><li>Can outputs be obtained through well-established methodology for less cost?<\/li><li>Is methodology proposed applicable in useful settings?<\/li><li>Do biological data support the study?<\/li><li>Is biological variability sufficiently accounted for?<\/li><\/ul><p>Authors who do not wish their manuscript to be considered for iScience should indicate so at submission. Publication in iScience is subject to an Open Access charge of $3000.<\/p><p>Reduced Open Access charges for authors in developing countries and others in financial hardship are available.<\/p><h4>Paper and abstract submission procedure<\/h4><p>Manuscripts for the &#8220;proceedings track&#8221; should not exceed 10 pages using at least 11 point font on U.S. standard 8 1\/2 by 11 inch paper with no less than one inch margin all around. This excludes the cover page and references. The cover page should have the title and the corresponding author&#8217;s email address. An optional short appendix, if absolutely necessary, can be included but will be considered at the discretion of the program committee. Manuscripts must be submitted electronically in PDF format via the EasyChair system.<\/p><p>Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection by email on or before April 1st 2022.\u00a0 An author of each accepted paper is expected to attend the workshop (if held in person) and present the paper; otherwise, alternative arrangements should be made to have the paper presented.<\/p><h4>Special handling of papers submitted to RECOMB 2022<\/h4><p>If you would like to consider submitting a paper rejected by RECOMB 2022 to the workshop, you may do so by the regular deadline of February 11, 2022.\u00a0 You must include in your submission a cover letter that includes the reviews received from RECOMB together with a rebuttal addressing the concerns raised by the reviewers. The submitted manuscript should also be modified according to the reviews, or provide an explanation of why modifications are unnecessary. All reviews will be treated confidentially and will only be visible to the PC members.<\/p><p>The submission system will be open starting Jan 23, 2022 and ending <del>February 23, 2022<\/del> March 6, 2022.
