The islands of the Northern Lagoon by private motorboat

Murano - Glassworks have been concentrated on this island since the Middle Age. The San Donato Cathedral, which is contemporary to S. Marco,,has a splendid colonnade apse where one of the most beautiful Venetian Byzantine floors can still be admired intact.
Burano - Active fishing center characterize by low, colourful houses. The island is also famous for laces.
Torcello - This was one of the most flourishing inhabited centres in the Lagoon. Today, only the Cathedral with its magnificent mosaics and S. Fosca church can still be admired.

Rialto - Visit to the characteristic popular quarters: fish and vegetable markets. S. Giacometto is one of the oldest churches in Venice
Frari - built between 1340 and 1443, this is the most interesting Venetian architectural-religious complex with SS: Giovanni e Paolo and San Marco. Inside works by Bon, Lombardo, Longhena, Vivarini, Donatello, Tiziano, Palma il Giovane, Sansovino, Bellini.
Scuola Grande di San Rocco is one of the most popular monuments in Venice. J. Tintoretto worked here between 1564 and 1588.

Campo SS. Giovanni e Paolo - After Piazza San Marco this is the most monumental and renowned complex with art masterpieces and historical memories: the monument to Colleoni, famous masterpiece by Verrocchio (end of the 15th cent.) The Renaissance fagade of Scuola di San Marco by P. Lombardo and Mauro Coducci : this is one of the six large "Schools" in Venice, built for humanitarian and religious purposes in 1260. Today the ancient seat of this guild houses a hospital. Finally the Campo is dominated by the SS. Giovanni e Paolo Church, a superb example of religious gothic architecture (14th and 15th cent.) which acquired special characteristics in Venice. Inside the church. Where 25 doges are buried, special attention is to be paid to the famous polyptych by G. Bellini and to the Chapel of the Rosary with paintings by Veronese, Tintoretto etc.

Chiesa dei Miracoli - This church is a precious jewel of the Renaissance. Entirely covered with marble, it is designed by P. Lombardo and built in 1480.

S. Giorgio degli Schiavoni School - "Schiavoni" were the Dalmatians living on the opposite coast of the Adriatic sea. From the 15th century, when Dalmatia became a Venetian territory, the number of Schiavoni in Venice was increasingly larger; at the beginning of the 16th cent. they built the present "School" which later became famous because of the paintings of Vittore Carpaccio.
