RECOMB CCB & Seq – Scientific Communication Session
La Jolla, USA, May 21, 2022
RECOMB CCB and RECOMB Seq 2022 invite PhD students and postdocs to submit their expression of interest to participate in a joint session on Scientific Communication with prizes available for best presenters. Communication is an essential skill, required for grant application writing, conference presentations, and journal articles. The purpose of this session is to demonstrate the ability to explain a scientific project in layman’s and jargon-free terms.
Each student and postdoc participating to the RECOMB-CCB and Seq’s Scientific Communication session will be asked to deliver a jargon-free and lay presentation of 5 minutes with or without the use of visual and media aids (e.g., Powerpoint presentation) covering the concepts:
- What is the main objective?
- Why did you do your study (scientific rationale)?
- What are the results (if available)?
- What happens next (or expected to happen next once you have results)?
Each presentation will be reviewed by a small judging panel. Judging would be based on how clearly the concepts would be understood by a general/lay audience, with a minimum of scientific jargon. Prizes will be available for the winners (details to be available soon). Presentations will be split into a session dedicated to students that will take place on Saturday 21th at 2.45pm within RECOMB CCB and RECOMB Seq schedule, and a session dedicated to postdocs that will take place the same day at 4pm.
Please apply by May 15th, 2022 to join the RECOMB-CCB and Seq’s Scientific Communication session through the track “Joint session RECOMB CCB and Seq” of the RECOMB 2022 EasyChair server. In the application, please include few words to describe the broad topic of the proposed presentation and related key words. Confirmations will be sent by May 18th, 2022.
